Presenting the achievements of the European Media Facility in Armenia project

On 27 November, the “European Media Facility in Armenia – Building Sustainable and Professional Media in Armenia” project’s achievements were presented at the project closing event and award ceremony the students participating in the project.

The three-year project was implemented by the Deutsche Welle Akademie, BBC Media Action, the Democracy Development Foundation, Hetq Investigative Journalists NGO, and Factor TV, with the support of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project was a unique facility for supporting and strengthening Armenia’s media ecosystem, providing financial support to marz-level mass media, organizing a total of 170 days of seminars and trainings, creating and publishing over 750 articles, training 54 media managers and trainers, and engaging over 800 active users to join the InFact Network online platform.

The Democracy Development Foundation was one of the organizations implementing this project by supporting 10 marz-level mass media and organizations in Armenia. “As a result of all these activities, marz-level media organizations expanded the scope of topics covered by them and diversified their production formats, helping them to reach a larger audience,” said Ashot Grigoryan, Democracy Development Foundation’s Media and Civic Participation project manager at the project closing event.

Under the project, the Democracy Development Foundation provided grants to 10 marz-level media, as a result of which the beneficiary organizations were able to expand the range of topics and issues they cover, to diversify their media production formats, to improve their technical resources, to purchase new hardware, to improve the content production quality, and to increase their audience.

In addition to grants, the Democracy Development Foundation organized a series of seminars for marz-level media, where invited experts discussed the challenges of balanced coverage of key issues for Armenia in the fields of human rights, security, discrimination, justice, accountable governance, environment, and access to health care, among others.
