A group of Armenian CSOs submitted recommendations to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for police new reform strategy

At the initiative of the Democracy Development Foundation (DDF), over a dozen civil society organizations developed and submitted to the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Internal Affairs a package of recommendations for the developing Armenia police new reform strategy and 2024-2026 action plan.

The package of recommendations includes several sectoral issues mapped by the civil society organizations, which were raised last year at a workshop-discussion held at the initiative of the DDF and with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The package of recommendations specifically includes proposals related to the issues of improving the Patrol Service, checking integrity in the Police, reviewing the accountability and oversight mechanisms, safeguarding the right to be free from torture and ill-treatment, protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, and improving the relationship between police officers and citizens.

All these problems stem from the field work experience of the Armenian civil society organizations, from their monitoring, as well as the long-term work with citizens.

Civil society organizations have expressed willingness to discuss solutions and action performance indicators with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the overall strategy monitoring and evaluation mechanism.
